Spectrum Swimming Club and Northfield Pool

S

I know many Northfield residents will have been worried by this article which has appeared in the Birmingham Mail.

So I wanted to write to update local people about the action I and Chair of Birmingham’s Northfield District Committee, Labour Councillor Brett O’Reilly, have taken in response.

We have called for an investigation into the issue of the Spectrum Swimming Club and Northfield Pool. This is to ensure that children have been fully safeguarded to date, and to ensure that there is no question about their safety from now on.

We have also called for Spectrum’s use of the pool to be suspended until the City Council is satisfied in relation to the above.

I was unaware of the existence of this swimming club before this week so I am making no allegations nor assumptions about it.

However, the revelations of criminal activity involving children by one of its former senior members raise serious issues and must be investigated. A precautionary approach in respect of the safeguarding of children is the only appropriate one in the meantime.
