Midlands MPs call for Osborne to act

M

Alongside 17 other Midlands MPs from across all parties, I signed a letter calling for George Osborne to use next week’s spending review to announce major new funding for regional development. Coined the ‘single pot’ by Lord Heseltine in his No Stone Unturned report on growth last year, the fund aims to revive regional economies in places such as the West Midlands.

Like the Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership, we believe that this single pot must be both wide in scope, and substantial in scale, if local areas are to be able to really drive growth. We do not think that a fund limited to a few billions drawn from a small number of departments with strings attached will be able to achieve this.
