Appointment as Shadow Transport Minister

A

I’m delighted to have been appointed by Ed Miliband to Labour’s Shadow Transport Team with responsibility for, amongst other issues, roads and road safety, motor agencies, cycling and future transport. Former Shadow Ministers Jim Fitzpatrick and Yvonne Fovargue did a fantastic job in raising automotive and local transport issues up the agenda, and I am excited to be building on these campaigns.

I am looking forward to bringing my experience and long standing passion for the automotive sector to my new role. I will be working on future of mobility and new opportunities in transport – including promoting low emissions vehicles and active travel policy. I know that far too many of us aren’t able to take up opportunities for low carbon transport, or enjoy the health and economic benefits of cycling, because the UK’s infrastructure in these areas is still not good enough.

I am very much looking forward to working with Labour’s new Shadow Transport Secretary, Mary Creagh MP, and the team – Lillian Greenwood MP, Gordon Marsden MP and Lord Byran Davie and Lord Richard Rosser over the coming years.
