VICTORY FOR LOCAL PEOPLE AS PLANNING INSPECTOR REJECTS THE APPEAL BY SAINSBURYS TO BUILD SUPERMARKET ON SITE OF NAVIGATION PUB…
News has just come through that the Independent Planning Inspector has rejected an appeal by Sainsbury’s to build a supermarket on the site of the Navigation pub, near Kings Norton Green. Your local Labour team – Richard Burden, Councillor Peter Griffiths and Councillor Val Seabright – have been working with the local community for months to secure this result.
Peter Griffiths and other members of Birmingham City Council’s Planning Committee voted to reject the proposal last autumn, but the threat re-emerged towards the end of last year when Sainsbury’s and the Spirit pub company submitted an appeal. You can read more about this here. A petition was drawn up by residents and local traders – including the Lifford Business Association – and a public meeting was chaired by Richard Burden as the local MP at Kings Norton Primary School in February to coordinate the campaign in opposition to the appeal.
Richard Burden added:
“This shows what can be achieved when our community acts together. The task is now to build the sustainable future Kings Norton Green deserves, tackling the traffic and other problems that were rightly key issues in this appeal being rejected.”
Labour Councillor Peter Griffiths said:
“The rejection of the appeal is great news for local people. I am proud that Val, Richard and I have been able to back Kings Norton as Labour’s local team and that we have had the backing of the City Council as a whole in doing so.”
Labour Councillor Val Seabright commented:
“Thanks to all those local residents that have worked together with your local Labour team to ensure the victory we have been working towards, that hard work has now paid off.”
