High speed rail will reinforce West Midlands as beating heart of England

H

The government has today published their plans for a new high speed rail network.

The Transport Secretary Lord Adonis made a ministerial statement earlier today recommending a route for a new high speed rail line between London and Birmingham with a future extension to northern England and Scotland.

This is the kind of long term thinking that we need for the West Midlands.

A high speed rail station in the centre of Birmingham will be good for the city and a gateway to the region as a whole. Having an additional interchange station adjacent to the NEC and Birmingham airport will boost the profile of the West Midlands on the international stage.

It will reinforce our role as the beating heart of England and help us to reach our potential as a centre of innovation, technological excellence and tourism.
