North Worcestershire Golf Course
Residents living close to North Worcestershire Golf Course will know that in August 2017 a renewed application by Bloor Homes to build 950 homes on the site of the old golf course was rejected by Birmingham City Council. Bloor Homes then lodged an appeal with the government in an attempt to overturn this decision.
The Government’s Planning Inspector will now conduct a public inquiry into Bloor Homes’ appeal to the Planning Inspectorate against Birmingham City Council’s rejection of their planning application. The public inquiry will commence on the 2nd October 2018 and it is expected that the inquiry will last for approximately 10 days. I am told that the comments of residents who have already written to Birmingham City Council’s Planning Committee and the Planning Inspectorate about this planning application will have been passed to the Planning Inspector for consideration as part of the inquiry.

Figures reveal rising food bank use
In recent years, the rise in the number of people requiring the support of food banks has been alarming and the past year has been no different.
Figures released yesterday by the Trussell Trust, the UK’s biggest food bank network, reveal that food banks provided record levels of emergency food supplies last year. The Trust provided 1.3 million three-day food packages for people in crisis, with almost half a million of these packages going to children.
In the West Midlands, between April 2017 and March 2018, almost 60,000 three day emergency food packages were provided to people facing crisis by the Trussell Trust, over 20,000 which were for children.

Proposed takeover of GKN by Melrose
Today, I was among the MPs from different parties across the House of Commons who argued for Government to intervene over the hostile bid by Melrose for GKN. GKN is one of Britain’s oldest and largest engineering companies making automotive and aerospace components. GKN Aerospace’s Kings Norton plant in my Birmingham Northfield constituency specialises in aircraft windscreens.
I am extremely concerned that the hostile bid that has been put to the shareholders of GKN by Melrose would be bad for the UK’s aerospace and automotive sectors and bad for employees of GKN. In my speech to the House of Commons today, I explained my reasons for taking this view
